Handmade Saddle Bag - Splendor for Riley Blake Designs

Hello friends! Warm weather has now arrived and it's making flowers bloom, mountains green, and sunshine to fill our uncertain times. Splendor fabric by Jen Allyson of My Minds Eye for Riley Blake Designs brings all those elements into this beautiful collection. The colors are stunning. Jenn designs pretty graphic florals, mixed with text elements, which is one of my favorite fabric combos.

I decided to make a Saddle Bag, with the text print being the star of the bag. I added the print to the front bag flap and added a twist lock to enclose the bag. I added multiple pockets of course, so you can store all your essentials. For me, essentials include - sunglasses, wallet, traveler's notebook or journal, pens, and hand cream (mostly hand sanitizer nowadays).

Here is what I made:

Splendor is out now, so check out your favorite quilt shops to see if they carry it.

Thank you!

Ephemera Tool Bag - Flea Market Mix Fabric

Hello! This is the last project I made for the beautiful Flea Market Mix Fabric by Cathe Holden for Moda Fabrics. I saved the best for last! I've always dreamed of making an Ephemera Tool Bag, something that can hold my treasures or current journals/projects I'm working on. Flea Market Mix is the perfect fabric this design. If you know my designs, I like to make things with multiple uses, and this bag has plenty!

I hope you like it! Here's what I made:

The bag functions as a tool bag, a storage box, or a flat pocket tote. The box is removable so you can place it as needed when journaling or working on projects. I made it large enough to hold travelers notebook journal and up to A5 journals. The box has a drawstring closure to keep all your things neatly stowed. The removable tote can hold papers, stickers, stationary, pens, etc. I used clear vinyl so you have easy access to your tools and placed zipper enclosures to keep everything in its place. When placed together, the box sits neatly inside the tote and is secured with magnetic buttons. I added leather handles to make it sturdy and finished it off with my favorite lace from Blue Linen Cottage Shop.

I hope you enjoyed my projects with Flea Market Mix fabric. It should be arriving soon in stores so check you favorite fabric shops!

Thanks!

Flea Market Mix - Pretty Two-Way Drawstring Tote Bag

Hello friends! I'm excited to share my second project with you from the beautiful collection Flea Market Mix by Cathe Holden for Moda Fabrics - Pretty Two-Way Tote Bag. I used my favorite print from the collection which is the vintage recipe cards in cream paired with the vintage buttons also in cream. Cathe really knocked it out of the park with print. It's lovely and the you can even probably try out the recipes listed on the cards!

The last post, I shared my Handmade Ephemera Journal which can easily fit the journal and notebooks, or journaling tools, or everyday items as well. If you know my designs, I love to make bags that have at least two functions. For this bag, I placed the handles on the inside so you can either close the drawstring or open it to make a roomier bag for all your needs. I added vintage lace from Blue Linen Cottage Shop to the top of the bag. This is where the drawstring opens and closes. It's really a lovely detail.

Here is the bag:

Flea Market Mix Showcase for Moda Fabrics - Ephemera Travel Journal

Hi friends! I hope you had a lovely Easter spent with loved ones, although spent in quarantine for the first time ever. These are historic times for us, and I hope you find comfort in things you love. For me, that would be creating - sewing (my first love) and journaling with ephemera.

Flea Market Mix by Cathe Holden for Moda Fabrics beautifully marries these two. Cathe is a talented designer whom I greatly admire. Her style is the epitome of nostalgic ephemera. Flea Market Mix has a stunning mixture of ephemera images, prints of handwritten recipe cards, vintage buttons, and beautiful florals to tie it all together. There are so many projects you can create with collection, and I hope you join me this week here on the blog and Instagram to see my showcase of projects.

For this project, I created a travel journal cover using Flea Market Mix Ephemera print. The size of the journal fits A5 notebooks or journals. I also added my favorite vintage laces from one of my favorite shops - Blue Linen Cottage Shop. If you are looking for lovely antique trims and lace (these go so perfectly with Flea Market mix), please check out this shop. The journal is held together with elastic and I added a charm to complete the look. I also added a vintage ribbon on the top right of the front cover to hold your pens. The inside of the journal is made with another lovely print and clear vinyl with an added zipper pocket. The other side also has another pocket where you slip your A5 notebooks or journals.

Stay tuned tomorrow if you want to see the inside journal flip through.

Here is the Journal:
